Are You Ready?

The Ugly Christmas Sweater Contest is all day Thursday. Are you ready? Even if you don't participate, I think it would be worth stopping by the library that day to see everyone in their...um...finery.....

Morgan

P.S. They still haven't convinced me to don one of these Ugly Sweaters.

Christmas Sweaters?

The library mommies and aunites are in a tizzy. Next Thursday, December 22, is our First Annual Ugly Sweater Contest and they are all trying to prepare for the event. Staff and patrons are encouraged to come to the library that day to show off their ugliest Christmas sweater, either one they've purchased (Born Ugly) or one they've created (Made Ugly). They are even encouraging ME to enter.

Cover up this gorgeous fur? I don't think so!

Disappointing Dinner

Sigh...they got the wrong type of parsley at the grocery. They got Italian flat-leaf parsley and I only eat curly parsley. I shall starve.

The Mystery Continues....

Remember my library mystery? Strange things are still happening! There were some people here this morning with a tape measure and a very fancy laser machine thingy that also measures things. They were measuring the circulation desk.

Earlier this week, all the mommies and aunties went crazy over this string that had a ton of little squares on it that were all different colors. But I've never heard of these colors before. They were talking about "Beluga Beige," "Fiesta," and "Dogbone Storm." These definitely aren't in my box of crayons.

A Library Mystery

Something strange is going on in the children's department.

Ms. Alyssa and Cassie have had a human device called a "tape measure" out almost everyday for the past week. As its name implies, they use this to measure things. But why would they need to measure things?

They have also been using words like, "bench," "price quote," "rug," "delivery," and "orange" a lot. I've also heard the phrase, "We'll move this...." a lot as well. (But it had better not be in reference to moving me!)

Friends, can you help me figure out what's going on? We will need to be stealthy with our investigation. The humans can be tricksy like Hobbits sometimes....

Trouble, I Am In It

So friends, I am in a bit of trouble. Apparently chewing on cables is frowned upon in this establishment.....

(The mommies cut the cable, I didn't chew all the way through.)
They should know by now that I must chew on something for my teeth and to be careful with what they leave lying around. But no, I'm grounded because they were careless.

Hmph. If you need me, I'll be in my cage pouting.

My Party

I promised I would tell you all about my party, so here we go!

Last year, I didn't get to help plan my party because they attempted to throw me a surprise birthday party. Even without my input they did a good job with lovely black and white decorations, including balloons with paw prints on them. They even had some sort of human food called "cupcakes" that all the guests loved.

But this year was going to be different. I was going to help with the party planning to make sure an event worthy of a famous library bunny was thrown. I decided to go with my favorite color, purple, along with accents of my other favorite color, green. I wanted amythysts and emeralds suspended from the ceiling, along with silk in those colors draped on the wall. For my treats, I wanted to import the best romaine lettuce I could find and a variety of carrots (did you know they have purple carrots?!). For the humans, I did some research and decided I wanted Duff Goldman from the shows "Ace of Cakes" and "Sugar High" to create a cake to look like the library, complete with a cake sculpture of moi!

Then Ms. Alyssa wanted to know how I planned on paying for all of this. I told her we could ask the library board. They love me.

I then brought up the idea to Mommy Krista who told me, very nicely of course, that there was no way that was happening. I would have to scale down my plans.

Thus I had purple and green streamers and a cake with purple icing. The humans really seemed to like the cake though, so all is well.

We also had things to make at the party. Another of my requests was for a few more bunny friends to play with. Ms. Alyssa asked if I would mind paper bunnies instead of real ones. I said that would be just fine (plus paper bunnies don't need to eat my food). My friends made some lovely bunnies for me that are on display near my cage. We also made rabbit bookmarks for everyone to take home.

And I had a special gift for my friends. I gave all my guests an autographed photo as a "thank you" gift.

But there was one big surprise left for me. My friend Cauli and her minions from the Mooresville Public Library came to my party! And they brought me a lovely gift of carrots! It was a wonderful surprise
.
I hope all my friends had a great time like I did. I can't wait for next year!

Morgan

Party Time!

Friends, do you know what next Friday is?

IT'S MY BIRTHDAY PARTY!!! Can you believe that I'm two years old?!

Ok, if you want to be technical, my birthday is actually in August. However, the library likes to celebrate my birthday in October because that's when I came to library to live when I was a small bunny. Last year they tried to be sneaky and plan a surprise party for me, but I am a clever bunny and discovered their plan! (It helped that they had signs all over the place and forgot that I know how to read.)

My party this year will be on Friday, October 7 at 3:30pm in the library's meeting room. Ms. Alyssa is planning the party and asks that you RSVP on our website. She needs to know how many people are coming so she can order some kind of people food called "cake." Just go to the October events calender, click on Morgan's Party, and sign up from there!

I hope you can make it!

Love and carrots,
Morgan

Birthday Bear

Did you know it's almost Winnie the Pooh's birthday? He will be 90 years old on August 21st! I must say, ke looks really good for 90. It looks like the New York Public Library is planning a special event for him. They're asking people everywhere to make a birthday card for Winnie and send it in.

I think I shall make one. I'd love to be able to go to the celebration but sending a card will have to do. Unless I can convince the library mommies we should take a road trip....

Does anybody else want to join me in making a card for Winnie?

Will a Spoonfull of Carrots Help the Medicine Go Down?

Oh friends, it has been an interesting past few days. I have been sick. I started feeling bad on Tuesday, and while I did start to feel better yesterday, the Mommies decided that I should go to the vet.

The vet was very nice and trip wasn't terrible (other than the dogs in the waiting room and we know how I feel about dogs). The vet said that I have what is called an upper respiratory infection, or as Ms. Alyssa says a very fancy cold. I did have to get a shot while I was there, and while I wasn't happy about that, it did not hurt as much as I thought it would and I know that it will help me feel better soon.

But apparently the shot was not enough.

The vet also told Mommy Denise and Mommy Tina (they took me to the vet) that I would need to take medicine twice a day for two weeks. Two weeks?! That's an eternity!

I took the first dose this morning. I know that I have to take it because it will make me better...but I don't like it. It's no fun to take and it certainly does not taste like carrots or pellets. I know they make flavored medicine for humans, why not for animals too?! But the Mommies reminded me that we all have to take medicine sometimes, even though it is not fun, and that I need to try to set a good example for everyone by being cooperative.

So I will try to be a good bunny and take my medicine and get lots of rest. I would still be happy to have visitors but I do have to cancel Sit With the Bunny this week. But please come and talk to me!

Love and carrots,
Morgan

Bad Weather at the Library

The Library Mommies and I have been online most of the morning monitoring the bad weather that will be coming through this afternoon. Do you know what you should do if you are at my library when the weather is so bad the sirens go off? I will tell you.

When we hear the sirens, the Mommies and other staff members will ask all patrons to follow them downstairs to our staff room. The staff room is on the lowest level of the library and has no windows, making it an excellent place to be during storms. If you want to stay in the library while the storm is happening, you must be in this area because we want everyone to be safe. I go in the staff room too, of course, in my lovely pink carrier to wait out the storm.

While we aren't open for business while the storm is going on (that means no check outs or internet, sorry), the library remains open as a safe haven for anyone caught in the storm. Please stop in if you find yourself out and about when the storm hits.

Library staff will be monitoring the situation by listening to our local radio station, WCBK, and checking local news and weather stations online. Once the "all clear" is given, everyone is free to go about their business.

Storms can be a little scary, but having a safety plan in place can make them seem less so. I hope everyone, no matter where you are, stays safe today!

Morgan

Sad News

My friend Peyton T. Fish passed away yesterday. He'd been very sick and the library mommies did everything they could but it was just his time.

He was a good fish. He was camera shy, so I don't have a picture of him, but he was a lovely dark blue beta fish with just a little red on his feathery fins. He always liked visitors and was an excellent listener. We will all miss him.

Love and Carrots,
Morgan

P.S. Mr. Paul, it is way too soon for sushi comments.....

A Horse of Course

Ms. Alyssa and Ms. Bobbi are all jazzed up for some horse race tomorrow. It's called the Kentucky Derby and in Ms. Alyssa's home state of Kentucky, it's apparently a pretty big deal. She even went as far as to call it the "greatest two minutes in sports."

Does anyone else know anything about the Derby? I will say that these horses have some...well...unusual names, such as, Pants on Fire and Mucho Macho Man. Then again, they may think that Morgan is an odd name for a rabbit.

The Teen Video!!!

Remember awhile back when I told you that the teens were making a commercial for the Summer Reading Program? Well here it is!!!

Isn't it cool?! But I must say...there seems to be a very important library staff member missing from the video.....

Book Pics

Remember my fort of new books? I promised I would review some of them for you and here they are!

A Sick Day for Amos McGee
by Phillip C. Sneed, illustrated by Erin E. Sneed

This one isn't actually a brand new book. In my last review, I brought you this year's Newbery Medal winner so I thought it only right to review the Caldecott Medal winner. The Caldecott Medal is presented every year for the children's book with the best illustrations. This lovely book tells the story of a zookeeper, Amos McGee, and all of his friends at the zoo. But what will Amos and his friends do when Amos gets sick?

I Feel Better With a Frog in My Throat: History's Strangest Cures
by Carlyn Beccia

This is my first foray into reading non-fiction. I will warn you, it is a little gross but still very interesting. This book tells about the different, and VERY unusual, medical treatments people have used throughout history. Did you know that some people thought putting mustard on your head would get rid of a headache? What a mess!

Square Cat
by Elizabeth Schoonmaker

Eula is a square cat. She thinks that life would be much easier if she were a round cat like her friends, Patsy and Maude. But her friends help show her that being a square cat is pretty terrific!

If You're Hoppy
by April Pulley Sayre

If you're hoppy and you know it you're a rabbit! Or a maybe a cricket. This book talks about the different animals you may be based on how you feel.

Waddles
by David McPhail

Waddles is a raccoon who is best friends with a duck named Emily. When Emily's ducklings hatch, Waddles becomes happy living in the park with his new family. But what will Waddles do when it's time for the ducks to fly south for the winter? This sweet story has lovely illustrations.

I hope you'll come check out these and our other fabulous reads!

BOOK FORT!!!

Hello friends! See my lovely fort?

Every single one of those is a brand new book! Isn't it wonderful?! I'm working on reading them so I can bring you my latest picks. I will go ahead and say that the book behind me on the left, Little White Rabbit by Kevin Henkes, is my front runner for this year's Caldecott Medal. It's lovely!

Weekly Rabbit Report for April 18-22

Hello friends! It's time to find out what's going on this week at the library!

Thursday will be our busiest day this week. Ms. Linda will be doing an Easter Storytime at 10:30 and 2:30. As my distant relative is the Easter Bunny, I'm looking particularly forward to this.

Cassie and the teens will have a Go Green! program at 3pm. I hope the green part involves some romaine....

On Friday, Ms. Alyssa will have some Easter fun ready for Toddler Time at 10:30am. And don't forget about Sit with the Bunny from 4pm-4:30pm!

Love and carrots,
Morgan

P.S. No signs of the intruder, thank goodness!

INTRUDER!!!!

Oh friends, I had an experience today. There was an intruder in my cage!!!

This is a photo of the beast.

His name is Stepford Guinea. He was presented to me as a guinea pig, like my friend Whitey, but he is obviously NOT the real thing. Who did they think they were trying to fool?!

Seriously, SERIOUSLY?!?!

All would have been fine and well if they had left him outside the cage, but oh no, they couldn't do that....

INTRUDER!!!
They HAD to put the creature in my cage. If his odd appearance wasn't enough, he makes HORRIBLE noises that frighten me.

I am traumatized by the whole experience. I need pellets....

Love and carrots,
Morgan

P.S. If this weren't enough humiliation, they took a video and posted it to my Facebook page....

National Library Workers Day

As a part of National Library Week, today is National Library Workers Day! Please take time to say "thank you" to any of the awesome people who work in your local library. From catalogers to desk staff, the library wouldn't be possible without all of their hard work!

I would also like to remind you that I am a library worker as well and encourage gifts of carrots and romaine as a sign of your appreciation....

Morgan

Weekly Rabbit Report for April 11-April 15

Happy National Library Week everyone! Don't forget to say "thank you" to my library mommies and aunties when you come in this week.

Once again, we have another busy week at the library with lots of special events!

Tonight, Monday April 11th, Mommy Krista is having a meeting for anyone who is interested in making jewelry! The fun starts at 7pm and I would be happy to model your creations for you (no earrings please- my ears aren't pierced).

On Tuesday at 10am, Jennifer is hosting a "Get to Know Microsoft Word" program. It is the first of three classes that helps you learn more about this popular word processing program. Registration is required for this program, so please call or stop in to get signed up.

Thursday is going to be a FANTASTIC day for programs!!!

First, Ms. Bobbi will host a Storytime that is all about Kings and Queens at 10:30am and 2:30pm.

Can you survive in the library? Cassie hosts Library Survivor for the teens at 3pm.

Then, we will have a special program at 7pm on Thursday that I am REALLY excited about. Vegecurious with Chef Wendell brings back Chef Wendell Fowler as he discusses how fresh, locally grown vegetables can change your life. This program was meant for me! I will say that the last time Chef Wendell spoke, we had quite a crowd so I would get here a little early. I wonder if he will have samples....

And finally, Ms. Janice will have a flower-filled Toddler Time at 10:30am on Friday.

Wow, it sounds like the mommies and aunties are going to have a busy week!

Love and carrots,
Morgan

New Books!!!

New books, new books! Tra la la la la!!! I love it when we get new books. Ms. Janet has been bringing out stacks and stacks of them! I took the liberty of looking over a few of them for you. Here are my favorites!

Otis & Sydney and the Best Birthday Ever
by Laura Numeroff

I love the "If You Give a..." books by Laura Numeroff. This is a new book she has written about two best friends named Otis and Sydney. Otis wants to plan the best birthday ever for Sydney. Will his surprise party be as wonderful as he hopes?

Fancy Nancy and the Fabulous Fashion Boutique
by Jane O'Connor

Ooo la la, our favorite fancy girl is back! When Nancy wants a new lace fan, she decides to sell some of her clothes and accessories at her own boutique to earn money. But what will she do when she sells a necklace that her little sister falls in love with?

Moon Over Manifest
by Clare Vanderpool

This is a very special book. See the shiny gold medal on the cover? That medal means this book is a Newbery Award Winner! The Newbery Award is given out every year to a book that is considered the year's best for kids. Abilene Tucker is sent to Manifest, Kansas for the summer while her father works on the railroad. She's at first disappointed in the worn-down town but a cigar box full of trinkets sends her and her new friends on a spy hunt! As Abilene learns more about the mystery and the history of Manifest, she soon starts to feel a part of the little town.

These were just a few of the new things we got in. Please come check out what else we have!

Morgan

The Weekly Rabbit Report for March 29-April 1

OMG, I'm so sorry I'm a day late with this! I had an exciting day yesterday because my Auntie Joyce is back! She's not been feeling too well lately, but she's slowly coming back around and came to see me yesterday. I hope she's able to come back and see me soon because I have missed her!

Now, down to business. I realize that this week is something called "Spring Break" and this means that a lot of people are out of town. But I hope some of you are still able to come a library program this week!

On Wednesday, March 30, my mommies and aunties are going on the road. Ms. Bobbi and Ms. Alyssa will be at Monrovia to perform two puppet shows! You can see "Piggy-Rae-Ella" and "The Dog Who Forgot" at 10am and 2pm! Ms. Janice will be at Waverly at 4pm for Mardi Gras Scratch Art. She suggests wearing old clothes to the program, just in case.

Thursday, March 31, is Puppet Show day at the Main library! Ms. Bobbi and Ms. Alyssa will perform at 10:30am and 2:30pm. Cassie also has a special Japanese Fest planned for the teens at 3pm. Perhaps I can teach the teens how to make an origami rabbit....

Friday will bring Toddler Time with Ms. Linda at 10:30am. She'll be reading stories about butterflies. Ms. Alyssa will have our final Mardi Gras event at 2:30pm with her Hat Making Program. And lest we forget, Friday means Sit With the Bunny at 4:00pm!!!

The Weekly Rabbit Report for March 21-March 25

Hello again friends! We've got another great week of programs planned for you. Want to see?

Storytime this week will be all about Garden Critters! Come check it out on Thursday at 10:30am or 2:30 pm.

Cassie and the teens have Poetry Open Mic on Thursday at 3pm. I'm working very hard on a piece I'd like to present.

Speaking of Thursday, we have a very special program at 7pm! We are pleased to bring you a performance by Traveler's Dream. This concert is rescheduled from earlier this year. Come out and listen to Irish jigs and reels, sea shanties, and traditional American songs!

We'll also be traveling to our Waverly branch this week for two more Mardi Gras programs. On Tuesday at 4pm, we'll be making noisemakers and we'll be back out at 4pm on Thursday to make hats!

Don't forget about Baby Time on Friday at 10:30am. Miss Alyssa has selected stories all about her favorite color, red! I may see if I have something red to wear for the program.

And last, but certainly not least, we have not one but two concerts on Saturday! The Naptown 5 Jazz Band will be performing at both our Waverly and Main branches. They will be at Waverly at 1pm and will travel down to Main for a 4pm performance. Bring the whole family out to enjoy an afternoon of jazz! This program is possible through a grant form the Community Foundation of Morgan County.

Doesn't everything look fabulous? I'm going to try my best to go to everything!

Stay tuned for next week. It's Spring Break and we have lots of special things planned for you....

Éirinn go Brách!!!

Happy St. Patrick's Day everyone! Do you know what today's title means? It's Gaelic (a language spoken by some mostly on the west coast of Ireland) for "Ireland Forever!"

My library mommies look so festive in all their green. Even Mr. Chuck stopped by in his lovely green shirt!

I even sported a little green myself! That happens sometimes after I eat lettuce (I forget to wipe my mouth....).

Morgan

Business Cards

I have discovered that my friend, Cauli Le Chat, is in the process of getting her own business cards.

I should have business cards. I am, after all, the library's main attraction and public relations expert.

I must speak to the library mommies about this....

Wow, that was a lot to report!

Love and carrots,

The Weekly Rabbit Report for February 28-March 4

I've decided to start something new! Every week, I'm going to give you a report of some of the things happening at the library. Most of the things I have to share will be activities in the Children's Department but I'll share some things going on in other parts of the library too.

Thursday, March 3rd is Preschool Storytime! Ms. Linda will have her "Get Your Garden Growing" program at 10:30am and 2:30pm.

Friday, March 4th is a busy day for us. Ms. Joyce has Baby Time for my youngest friends at 10:30am. Then, at 4:00pm (the most important time of the week), she hosts Sit With the Bunny!!!

The other big news at the library this week is Overdrive! The Morgan County Public Library is now a part of Overdrive, an online consortium that allows our patrons access to downloadable e-Books and audiobooks. Now you can download these items to your computer and then transfer them to your e-Reader, MP3 player, or other mobile device. On Thursday, March 3rd, we will have an overview of how to use Overdrive at 7pm. Information about Overdrive is available on our website.

Love and carrots,
Morgan

P.S. I've had another photo shoot and hope to share the pictures with you soon!

Rainy Days

It has rained all day today! I'm afraid it has kept some of my visitors away, which makes me sad. On the upside though, rainy days are wonderful for napping. I'm all caught up on my beauty rest so I'm ready for everyone to come see me!

A Visitor!

I have a special visitor here at the library! His name is Whitey the Guinea Pig. He's going to be staying with me for a few days. He seems to be very good roommate. Whitey is an older guinea pig so he spends a lot of time resting in his pigloo (that's his house). He does come out to visit and eat but he enjoys having alone time. That's just fine with me because I will be happy to entertain all of our visitors! Come see us soon!

Morgan
